Policies and measures on occupational health and safety are very crucial in the flower production. In the flower industry many pesticides with high toxicity are usually applied. This means a health hazard for workers, not only for pesticide sprayers and greenhouse workers but also for graders. Sprayers are not always fully protected against pesticides.

Greenhouse workers complain that they are forced to enter their work place before re-entry times after spraying have expired. As a consequence of this they suffer from skin and respiratory diseases, headache and dizziness. When they are unable to work due to their illness they are dismissed.
